So driving to Poughkeepsie early yesterday morning, taking the train to NYC, subways and dinner with my Uncle and Dad, and driving back here early this morning was, well, crappy. But that being said, the interview went ok, I'm stressed about parts where I messed up royally. But I cling to the fact that approx 50% of the people get positions, and last year all the alternates also got positions. SO I figure that even if I'm in the bottom 50% I would like to believe I'd be in the top of that bottom, and if someone were to drop out, I'd be one of the first people to take their place. The three people who interviewed me were 1 alum (this wacko American guy, but I bet that they want people with his energy, which I don't have but hopefully they will have been impressed with my awesome outfit), one lady who worked for the Japanese Consulate (she was pretty cool, I liked what I saw of her persona. But she made a silly comment, "why do people on the street ask me for directions, can't they see I'm a foreigner??" I was thinking, um, no they can't tell one way or another, least of all in NYC, but she was cute about it. Compared to the Japanese lady who brought me up from the lobby, who was one of those plastic people, if you know what I mean, this lady had real substance) and the third was an older Japanese lady who teaches at Hunter College (she was pretty cool too, she looked like a stereotype feminist free mind woman who grew up in the 50's, but she spoke too quiet, and sometimes had a hard time hearing her. She was also the one who asked me what I would do about there being so many smokers in Japan, that was a weird question to say the least).
Now I'm waiting for 7 to go listen to Tariq Ali, he's actually speaking here today. For those who don't know him, he's an Pakistani Scholar who totally rips apart Bush policies (and other stupid american policies on top of that). I'm just so tired that I think I will not be able to stay awake for the whole thing.
