More like "camping," since we slept in a cabin. But this weekend was a lot of fun. On Saturday I taught an English class in the morning where I taught my students some songs (and all they did was complain about how hard it was as usual). After class some of us grouped together to start our adventure to Chichibu (rural part of the prefecture) for our outing. Met up with Ian and Jenn at Kita Konosu train station, and drove to Ashigakubou where we met up with Yosenex and Scott.
With the exception of the people driving the cars and those who weren't up for the climb we then hiked for 3 hours up to the campsite. At first it was all road and I was getting annoyed about that (that isn't hiking, that's taking a stroll). But after settling the confusion it actually turned out that we had to walk on the road to get to the start of the hiking trail. It wasn't so hard, but it wasn't easy either. Saw some pretty things.
We then finally found the rest of the party and proceeded to make dinner and talk. And then my students put on a little play! I was so cute. ^^ After a while though it was clear that the youngin's wanted to go somewhere separate and so we played some cards outside and explored around.
The next day we played a stupid game called frisbee golf. It's a silly as you are imagining it to be, except add a whole bunch of trees and gorges and other taihen (annoying) things. There is this basket where you have to get the frisbee in, but it's not that easy because quite often the baskets were far away and frisbees don't really go straight after a certain distance. I suppose it was fun by the end though. I got a decent score, 48. Best score was a 38, worst in the 60s.
After that part of the party went home early with the train and the rest of us drove to the river bamk to see the iwadatami (tatami rock) it looks like tatami mats! I'll post pictures soon.
thanks to all of you who made this a great trip. I had a really good time. I'll miss you guys who are leaving next month. :(
