Hokkaido!

So just came back from Hokkaido last night. I went with Tomoyuki, Kouhei, and Akane. What an awesome place! Sapporo is a great city, I wouldn't mind living there. Sapporo actually makes sense, and the streets have (semi) names. So you can actually direct yourself with a map and an address. Urban planning, finally, in Japan. Usually you just have to rely on "the third vending machine after the light" kind of bullshit. And as Yosenex will tell you, buildings are just randomly placed around with no order or meaning. It's the total opposite of the stereotype Japanese order. But in general I'm discovering that image is just foreign misinterpretation of the Japanese.
Anyway, on friday we walked around Sapporo and tried to find the ramen district (ramen is something Sapporo is famous for) but we let Kouhei decide where to eat, and it was not special at all. There were so many places and he didn't even choose one where you could get crab (another thing Hokkaido is famous for). So anyway, then we were all tired and said "let's rest for a bit at the hotel" which was a mistake because we didn't get up again after that. Akane and I watched "The Mummy" on our blissful bilingual TV. hehe.
Saturday we went to Otaru and walked around. Saw a woman blowing glass, that was awesome. I want to learn now.
We tried to find soft serve icecream (in the freezing cold, but again Hokkaido is famous for dairy stuff) and found a little place, I had gellato and espresso, it was OK. I should have gotten soft serve though. We went to Club Crab and ate good food. Fun Fact: The pronunciation of "Club" and "Crab" in Japanese are exactly the same "ku-ra-bu ku-ra-bu"
Sunday we went to an "Old Village" not far off from Sapporo, but it was more like half old half new. But it was still pretty. It had snowed the day before and everything was white. They had ski's you could use for free, and Tomoyuki tried but gave up reall quick. There were no slopes anyway. All the volunteers were very kind, there were certain places where they had fires going (in the old style) and they let us sit and gave us tea while telling us interesting things about old timey Japan. On the way to the airport I had a crepe with soft serve icecream and that was sooooo good. The best ice cream I've had in Japan. The crepe wasn't crispy, so that was a minus, but it was still good.
So it was a good trip, and it was really affordable. I think all in all I spent only 500 including even the flight and trains and hotel. I needed that trip. Now I want to live there. It was cold, but it didn't bother me much. Ahh, man, why wasn't I placed in Hokkaido? But I guess I'm in Saitama and that's good because I'm near Tokyo.
