So it's been snowing since sometime last night and all morning. It's beautiful and all, BUT THEY DIDN'T CANCEL SCHOOL!

OK, don't get me wrong, they didn't just cancel school every time it snowed in Hyde Park. But listen, they don't have any plows here. NOT ONE SINGLE PLOW! Roads and sidewalks are hazardous, sloshy everywhere, slippy slidy everywhere you turn. AND THEY DIDN'T CANCEL SCHOOL. Don't they care about the safety of their students and teachers? This is total bizzaro weather for Saitama, you would think that they would respond, somehow.

I feel better today though at least. like maybe 75%. I don't think I'll barf on the kids, that's a plus.

Danm the Japanese work ethic.

So today I was teaching kids names of vehicles. You know, stuff like "car" "train," etc.

Then I taught them "Do you like ____?"
They say "yes I do" or "no I don't." Easy enough, they do those sorts of things from 1st grade.

I ask one boy if he likes police cars, and he doesn't want to answer and by the end he is in tears. Um??? I'm so sorry! I didn't think I was pressuring him too much, I was even helping him with the answer. No dice. The teacher then tells me that his father is a police officer.

Yikes.

That has to be a rough situation where just asking if you like police cars gets you all upset.

Today all the grades said/sung a farewell to the sixth graders. It was cute. The fourth graders did that "soran soran" dance. It must be a dance giving thanks to crops because it's full of those sort of manual labor movements. (pull the rope, shovel the ground! dance dance dance!)

Just now I picked up this book next to the computer that has a bunch of jpeg's that must be on a CD somewhere. There are sooo many funny pictures in there. One was of a boy taking a test, he's sweating and thinking of a skull and crossbones. Another one is of a boy who just won a medal, and he is juming in the air from joy, but his legs are split (ballerina style) and there is a puff of air coming from his butt.
I wish I had the CD so I could upload some for ya'll.

OK, almost time to split. I'm getting my new glasses today (I think, maybe I'll just go home and sleep.... we'll see.)
