Aug. 10th, 2004 02:27 pmSo, Sode called me in the morning circa 8 am, man was I groggy! But ok, I went to meet her in Tokyo that afternoon. I bought a 1620 yen ticket, enough to last me both directions, and boarded the train. When I arrived at Shinjuku I put my ticket in the machine, expecting it to spit it out again on the other end….. and nothing. It totally ate it! Thank goodness I had Sode sensei with me to explain what had happened to the guy in the booth, because I was just lost for words, especially in Japanese. The nice man let me go inside for another trip. Unfortunately I lost most of the money anyway because our next trip was to shibuya and therefore only a 150 yen trip which doesn't make up for that round trip fare.
But Sode sensei picked up the tab for lunch. We had katsudon, the fried pork thingies. The restaurant paid incredible attention to detail, the green tea was served in the green cups and the black tea in the brown cups. Very tasty, I have to do something nice for sensei, she has done so much for me. I have to think well about it. For now I will send her a post card or two.
After lunch we went to shibuya where we saw an exhibit done by a modern artist but in the style of old Japanese prints. Lemme just say that lady is weird. I mean, her subject matters were a little insane. But some of the more sinister and silly ones worked best. Some others were just not silly in a good way. They also had a mini tea ceremony, where I discovered that they use powdered tea leaves (not powder tea mix) and therefore it comes out very bitter, but I like it. There were also these adorable little okashi that were very yummy. I also tried some rose water drink. It really tasted of rose petals.
I have to ask my parents to send me some Greek mountain tea. I think the people at the office would get a kick out of it. That in addition to a dozen other things will make a nice care package for me, yey. I'll be happy to get a package ^_^.
Met Arai-san today for an extended period of time, I met him only briefly before his trip to Australia. He's very, if I may say so, cool. He didn't want to work so we just went from place to place dilly dallying. He took me to the famous hina-ningyo store and bought me a guard against the devils which is a lion/dragon head. I have placed it on the shoe box for now, till I think of another place to put it. Then we went to have an iced tea/coffee and he told me that Australian food is not for him. "Every meal." he tells me, "came with potatoes." I laughed a bit internally to that one. He also graciously gave me the next two day off, yippie for me! I still didn't do any Japanese work… maybe now??
Maybe I'll just read more Sherlock Holmes, 'cause it's so good. I don't understand those versions of the characters that make Watson an idiot. I don't think I like that, he's obviously not an idiot because he really appreciates and understands the way Holmes works, even if he can't do it himself.
